RASH FIELD PARK PHASE II
CLIENT Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore
DURATION June-September 2022
LOCATION Baltimore, Maryland
SECTOR Parks & Open Space
CHALLENGE
The Waterfront Partnership sought to ensure Phase II of Rash Field Park genuinely reflects and serves Baltimore City’s diverse population. They needed to deepen community outreach so that residents from across the city feel the park is both welcoming and tailored to their interests. The goal: increase visitation, understand user preferences, and embed community-driven design in the early stages—all while managing logistics and maintaining engagement over several months.
ASSEDO’S IMPACT
Strategic Outreach Plan & Coordination
Assedo designed a multi-channel public engagement strategy—including online and paper surveys, “pop-up” events, and two in-person public meetings—running from mid‑June through mid‑September 2022. We collaborated closely with Waterfront Partnership on promotional materials, flyer distribution, and digital registration via Eventbrite and QR codes.
Pop-up & Public Event Activation
July 27 Ice Cream Social (Rash Field Park):
Partnered with Taharka Brothers (majority Black‑owned cooperative) and entertainer Allen Koi to enhance community presence.
September 27 Follow-Up Meeting:
Displayed updated design boards and hosted a dynamic Q&A session.
Used interactive posterboards to capture additional input, deepening design dialogue.
Data Collection & Design Influence
Survey results, observations, and recorded preferences were consolidated and shared with Mahan Rykiel & Associates and Waterfront Partnership. We identified key community priorities—such as retaining sports amenities, improving pathways, and incorporating inclusive cultural features—and translated them into actionable design recommendations.
Equity-Centered Access & Inclusivity
Provided digital (QR codes) and paper survey options to ensure equitable access.
Incentivized participation with culturally relevant partners and light refreshments to increase accessibility and attendance.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Broad demographic engagement across the city
Effective collaboration with local businesses and community partners
Direct influence of public feedback on Phase II design decisions
